Equipment Needed: [PLEASE READ]

  • A reliable shotgun (12-gauge recommended; 20-gauge acceptable)

This course focuses on rapid, sighted fire on multiple targets. A traditional full buttstock is strongly recommended for this role. Rifle-style stocks with pistol grips are acceptable; however, pistol-grip-only shotguns are designed primarily as breaching tools and are not suitable for this course. For safety reasons, pistol-grip-only shotguns are not permitted.

  • Side saddle (not required but highly recommended)
We recommend a VangComp Velcro-attached side saddle.

  • Ammunition:

    • 350 birdshot shells (light target loads recommended)

    • 50 rounds of buckshot (multiple types recommended)

    • 5 slugs (for the qualification)

Note: Low recoil ammunition is not recommended, especially for semi-automatic shotguns. While it may function in pump-action guns, it often does not reliably cycle semi-autos. Students are strongly encouraged to test their ammunition in advance to ensure proper function.

  • Ammo carriage:
Ability to carry at least one box (25 shells) on your person. This can be a pouch, dump pouch, fanny pack, or similar solution.

  • Sling (highly recommended):
A quality tactical sling is strongly encouraged. Without a sling, you will be required to ground your shotgun during certain portions of the course.

  • Eye and ear protection:
Electronic hearing protection is recommended, along with a baseball cap.

  • Knee pads (optional)

  • Water for hydration

If you have any questions or concerns about your equipment, please email us as soon as possible.
